I thought it was Mr G, but no...
Hello there, and you are....?
Why, it's Ten. This is the neighbour's pride and joy, the one who hid in my roof gutter for 2 days until they got Indon workers to climb onto my roof to get him back.
I gave him some food when he went into the kitchen, but he politely declined.
He came as close as he could to the grille, as though asking to come in.
Then, he sat on the dining table.
I was told that this neighbour's house is FULL of cats and tiny kittens. Her cats are all un-neutered, hence, they keep reproducing. I advised her to get her cats neutered, but said her husband would not allow it (from a religious point of view).
I think because there are too many, her cats roam out. Unfortunately, some go to her other neighbour and that's a cat-hater. She said they were poisoned. Poor cats.
The problem can be solved if she got her cats neutered.
She told me Mr G's parents belong to her and they are still reproducing.

Ask her to refer hukum yang dah dikeluarkan oleh JAKIM...hukumnya adalah HARUS..maknanya dibolehkan untuk memandulkan haiwan peliharaan jika ianya terlalu banyak dan mungkin mendatangkan masalah kepada kucing tersebut, penjaganya dan masyarakat sekeliling...i myself neuter my cats..
They rather let it reproduces and roam around freely, if it's overloaded with animals and they will throw them away to the street and saying that there will be "kind hearted" people to pick/adopted it. I see cats and dogs died at the middle of the busy road or highway almost everyday on my way to work. I think from the point of religious view, the god does not want to see these happened too..... I neutered/spay all my four dogs and one cat. I sincerely hope that Dr Chan you can change her mind by neutering all her cats without further delay. Thank you..
Dear Remee, I have already advised her to get all her cats neutered, speak to her husband about Jakim's Fatwa on neutering, and referred her to the vets in Subang Jaya. I cannot, as you have suggested, "neuter her cats without further delay". That is overstepping my boundary. These are her pets.
I have a good friend, who quietly bring her neighbours' cats for spaying / neutering. She believes in neutering / spaying. Her neighbours don't. I guess, what they don't know won't hurt them. Hehe. Mind you, the cost of spaying / neutering is borne by my friend. And this is in a Malay neighbourhood, and she's Malay too. But that's her.
We need to respect each person's beliefs. We have ours. If she doesn't want to spay / neuter, then she must make sure she is able to care for her animals. We can only advise her based on our own experiences.
I wonder if they sell birth control pills for animals? Perhaps they can use that instead to control population ??? (Just wondering - it just pop into my head)
Remee,
Dr Chan cannot overstep her boundary. She can only advice people what to do and ultimately it is up to the individual. Everyone has his/her religious belief and in a plural society like Malaysia, we have to respect each other's religious belief.
Based on what has been written, the cats are well taken care of. They are not throwing their cats away to the streets. Look at Mr G and Ten, they are so well fed.
Learn to live and respect each other's belief rather than condemning other people, Remmee.
Natalie
Corrections:- I myself took my cats to the vet for neutering (I'm not neutering my cats by myself..:-))..from my experience, it's actually hard to persuade someone to spay or neuter a dog or cat...but nothing is impossible...
Hi Joy, When we did mass neutering in Teluk Chamang 2 years ago for a Thai lady who looked after stray puppies at the cemetery, we found out she had fed birth control pills to the dogs, bought from Thailand. When the vets opened up the dogs which had gone on the pill, they found the uterus had contorted and was deformed. The vets advised the lady to stop using those pills as it could lead to serious health problems, including cancer.
She will have problems with inbreeding cats in the future generation. Sometimes the problems are not obvious. The cats will have shorter life span and health issues.
