A spray-free night?

Last night, I used baking soda to clean all of Cow's favourite spray spots while he watched me from the table. And this morning, voila...so far I don't see any urine marking on any of his favourite spots. I don't know if he did spray because even if he did, I won't be able to smell it. But I don't see any!

But after breakfast, he did come into the room, and I had to keep shoo-ing him out to the pantry and garden. I'm trying to break his habit.

Now the question is, should I cage him before I go off to work today?

Maybe a better alternative would be to put everyone out in the pantry this morning and don't let anyone in while I'm away at work. And when I'm back, everyone can come in again.

Meanwhile, I will continue with the baking soda and vinegar treatment, and yes, play Nat King Cole.

You should consider installing a CCTV system in your home to monitor outside for security purposes and of course, double up to monitor inside to see what your furkids were up to. Then, you will know for sure who is innocent and who is the culprit. : )

Our TomTom played with us like Cow. Don't let up Dr Chan. Ten hours of confinement is no big deal. TomTom is just like Cow play the 'victim' all docile and placid laying on the same spot and position for hours as if sick but when we let our guard down that's the moment he strike chasing the small ones and goes on a spraying spree including marking us as his property. After 3 weeks of ons and offs confinement he finally 'behaves' and seem like remorseful. Peace in the home for once.

Our brood loves oldies songs too..

We too tried almost anything on the market to end the spraying including Feliway spray and diffuser. After awhile, we ended up using good old baking soda, vinegar, lemon, powder detergent (with bio enzyme). I think care maybe required if use on marble or wood flooring. On another extreme, we also took down our heavy ceiling to floor curtains and do with only sheer ones where possible. This reduces the laundry trips. We also covered the targeted furniture with old bed sheets as the first line of defence. Yes... until today, the house looks like those in the horror movies. Imagine clearing the linens before guests arrived. So far it works...

I think the materials in the market to stop spraying will not stopped any cats from spraying completely, merely holding them back for a short period of time. Since you have 6 alphas and with Raven being around in the house, the need to mark increases. I do not know of any other materials to help you with reducing the spraying and cleaning, but after wiping the urine away, I'd do another round with Bio Attack detergent powder. The detergent is fresh smelling and its the best so far for me to use when they spray on the wooden flooring.

Your “You spoil your cats, you never trained them properly, you don’t understand cats, you should have done this, you should have done that, etc.” has got nothing to do with them spraying... its their natural instinct. We can only try to reduce the frequency.
