Reinstalling the shelf at the Clubhouse

I took a BIG risk a few days ago and had the Spider-Cat Classic Escape-of-the-Year shelf reinstalled at the Clubhouse.

Indy was the very first to notice it.

This is the famous Spider-Cat Escape shelf, which I had dismantled when we were totally outsmarted and baffled by Indy's great escapades. I had it dismantled and reinstalled as a "jungle walk" for Cleo, but nobody liked it. So, after more than a month, I decided the good shelf should not be wasted just like that. After all, it's cengal wood and reputed to be extremely "tahan lasak". Yes, good hard wood from our rainforests.

So, it's reinstalled now, just slightly lower than where it used to be.

Indy just looked but did not attempt to go up.

 Instead, Bunny went up first!

 And he liked it...

So far, only Tabs and Bunny have used it.

They also don't play with the green tubes anymore.  Instead, it's used to sleep on or to rub one's face onto.

 Me and my grey mat.
Ain't nobody touchin' it but me!

Cow rises to the occasion!!

We were right that Cow has mellowed over the years and we all agree that Cow is very well-behaved these days except for the occasional crankiness (who isn't at times, right?).

Today I witnessed Cow at his best.

This afternoon, Bunny charged at Tabs (to bully), and guess who came to Tabs' rescue?

Yes, Cow Mau!

Cow Mau surged at Bunny, hissed, growled and stopped Bunny from bullying Tabs. He chased Bunny away!

Yay for Cow Mau!!

We always opine that Cow Mau is the way he is because he missed out on his childhood.

When Cow, Bunny and Pole were first rescued at 2 days, it was Cow who protected Bunny & Pole. Even when I first found them by the roadside, it was Cow who crawled away to "look for help". At least that was the impression I got when I saw them the second round. In the first round, I was so ignorant I hoped the mother-cat would come get them. It was on my second round (on a Sunday morning walk) that I realised, "No, this isn't right. They have been dumped by some human," and I saw those crows sitting on the wire. The rest is, as they say, history. That started my rescue work.

As the kittens were growing up, Cow was always the one who would seek help. For example, he would walk (as a little kitten), all the way from the kitchen out to the living room to call for food when they were hungry. Pole was too busy trying to escape (and she did, from the plastic box, she heaved herself out, eyes still closed). Bunny was too ignorant and was always the last to attempt anything (and often failed). Like when he tried to crawl out, he fell down instead! Cow and Pole bullied Bunny!

Then, after 4 months, Tiger came, and after a brief period of rejecting Tiger, it was Cow who came forth and took Tiger under his wing.

Yes, Cow again.

So, we figured he missed out on his childhood and never got to be a kitten. And this is why he is the way he is now.

So, we let him be a child again now!

Good boy, Cow...

Bunny's fun in the sun (or "When Timmy met Bunny")

This morning, while I was at work and the two boys (husband and son) were at home, Bunny managed to sweet-talk them into giving him a romp in the garden.

Apparently, there was an encounter between Timmy and Bunny, but it was "peaceful". This proves that Bunny doesn't simply pick fights. He just bullies. When Timmy met Bunny, there was no growling but Bunny stool tall, and Timmy backed off. Smart boy...walk away when you sense impending trouble.

Bunny went to sniff at Rosie's tail as well, and Jia-Wen quickly whisk Bunny off because he was afraid Rosie might attack (which she is capable of) and a fight between Rosie and Bunny would have been disastrous.

Bunny then went to explore the rest of the garden...

He spent quite a long time out in the sun this morning and he did not attempt to go out of the gate.

Happy Sunny Bunny!!

 Tired out all afternoon.

We got another one of these mats and Bunny has monopolised it.

 Taking turns on the mats.

Thank you for sharing, Indy.

Sometimes, this is all Tiger gets.

"Pawing" on the new mat. It's a sign of happiness.

 I don't need a mat!

Oh no...where is Tabs??!!

Last night, it was red alert at Bunny's Place.

Tabs had gone missing and was no where to be found!

It started when daughter, Ming-Yi went into Bunny's Place and searched for Tabs. She could not find Tabs anywhere. She then alerted husband who quickly came to join the search. They searched everywhere (now, how big is Bunny's Place (room plus garden), right, called out her name, but she was no where to be found. Tiger seemed very concerned. The rest were...well, they were just there, not particularly worried, apparently.

I was already asleep, but I heard the faint shouting of Tabs' name, so I woke up and quickly came downstairs. By then, husband was on his way out of the house to hunt for Tabs.

I went into Bunny's Place and called out for Tabs.

After a few shout-outs, Tabs came prancing in wide cheetah-like leaps, almost like leaps of victory, from the end of the Clubhouse. She moved at lightning speed and leapt into the room within seconds.

The search was called off, of course.

I don't know what happened, but I suspect it was her masterpiece hide-and-seek-cum-ambush plan for us. You know how she just loves playing hide-and-seek with us and ambush us from behind the wall?

Well, this is her masterpiece!

We are just so glad there was no new escape hole in Bunny's Place! (To be sure, we checked the entire garden before going back to bed).

Heh heh...I won! I won!! I outsmarted the humans!! Yippeee!!

 I was worried...

Meanwhile, today, the cats had a visitor...

It's rescuer and friend, Jessy Lian.

Would you know it, Cow was the most hospitable. He always is.

Indy seems to be saying, "Don't nobody touch my mat!"

 Super manja...the misunderstood Cow.

In all fairness, Cow has mellowed down a lot these days.

He just gets cranky once in a while and bites.

The Spider-Cat strikes again!

Oh no!!! Indy escapes again???!!!

Well, sort of, yes. But no worries, he's back already.

Every morning, on the days where my husband goes to work later, he lets the three non-Cows out to play.

The non-Cows are Tabs,...

Indy

 ...and Tiger.

He figured they must be dying to get out because of the Cow-Family-stress inside Bunny's Place.

"How can anyone live with all this stress of being attacked", he laments.

So, he lets the non-Cows out.

Tabs is the happiest, because she gets to run and play with everything.

These are the vuvuzelas from the rally!

 Tabs loves looking outside.

We have all the doors and windows closed. Or, partially shut in a way that no normal cat would attempt to open.

Note that I said "normal" cat.

But Indy is not a "normal cat", so after a few minutes, Indy had gone missing!!

"Oh no, Indy is gone!!", my husband raised the alarm.

INDY!!!!

As quick as lightning, he saw a flash of black-and-white leaping into the garden (from outside) and back onto the patio. Oh no, was that Indy? Did he have a romp in the park?? You'll never know, because the masked hero is just too fast.

But Indy was quickly brought back and his body was all hot. And Tabs was with him too, but she was only at the patio.

Gosh...!!

Here's where Indy escaped. He must have pushed open the sliding door.

Or was it through the kitchen window?

Or here, in the living room, but in plain sight? Husband was seated there watching tv and did not see Indy escape?

Well, with Indy, trust me, it IS possible.

Mr Indy, just how did you escape?

Not telling, huh?

Our masked hero, energised by his successful escape which went undetected, is unperturbed.

He attempts again.

He tries upstairs, but all the windows are shut tightly. Locked.

Tabs is just playful, but not so adventurous and she won't attempt anything risky, unless it's a wide open window, then our girl's specialty is the roof escapes.

I don't get to go out??

Well, you're a Cow, so no, Bunny.

Cow & Bunny spray, so they cannot be let out freely. Only under supervision. They do get time-out too, but only for a few minutes.

Pole? Er, no, we think she has already telepathically-seen all the possible escape routes so the moment we let her out, she'll be out of the house and would have gone goodness-knows-where. Cleo? I think Cleo is quite happy where she is.

Yes, I'm happy where I am.

 Another million-ringgit shot of Cow-in-the-Condo!

Bunny gets to play in his washing-machine-space-pod, under close supervision.

No Pole escapades, please.

We don't know how to deal with her type of escapes...yet. Once she has it all calculated to precision, there's no stopping her. And Pole never fails.

 Bunny has a guest.

 It's Timmy!

He so wants to be friends.

After an hour of freedom, Tiger asks to come back.

He sits at outside the grille and I open the grille. He walks right in.

He is satisfied and happy.

Shh...don't tell Cow & Bunny!
