Ginger overslept again....gets new treat in town!

Ever since the last few times when Ginger went "missing", I've learnt not to get overly anxious when he misses dinner at 3.30pm. In every one of such episodes, he would come back from his rooftop plaza (where we think he has a den which is super comfortable for afternoon naps). The only time he really overslept badly was the time he came back at midnight. That time, I had run into panic mode, enlisted the help of a psychic and Mum-Daffodil was also sitting on the rooftop refusing the come down. That was a heart attack episode.

Nowadays, I look at Daffodil's demeanour. If she's cool, I will not go into panic mode.

But today, Ginger missed dinner again and it was already 6pm.

I was about to run into panic mode when...

A late Monge dinner...and Timmy is near, hoping for left-overs.

There is a new cat treat in town and I was given some samples to try.

Poor rabbit....(I know).

But then again, cats are carnivores and they need meat. And since we are on this subject, there is also catfood that has beaver in it and I was told it's free-range beaver (for population control). I suppose it is the lesser of the two evils - free-range meat vs. factory-farmed meat.

Ginger and Daffodil ate it, but not Timmy!

Timmy didn't eat it?

Yes, Timmy didn't eat it!!

Maybe Timmy is kind to rabbits?

mini-20140618_175556

It is raw freeze-dried nuggets.

Sorry, photos blurry, taken with phone.

mini-20140618_175713

The queen of raw food, Cleo, downed three nuggets.

She loved it.

mini-20140618_175728 mini-20140618_175734

Everyone ate, including Tabs. Only Tiger wasn't sure if he should eat it and looked at me for approval first.

I don't know if he finally ate it. Maybe not. Tiger "thinks" he is vegetarian. But worry not, please, Tiger eats catfood, not vegetables. The "vegetarian" part is a joke, if you've been following Tiger's tales since he was young. He's a compassionate cat. When young, he only ate kibbles and fish. He didn't want chicken. So we used to call him a "vegetarian".

Tiger is our Mandela cat! A very kind and peace-loving cat. Doesn't fight, doesn't fight back...

Purrfect Bistro Healthy Weight (aka "weight control")

When Merrick's Purrfect Bistro was first introduced to the Malaysian market in October 2013, all our cats had a go at it: http://myanimalcare.org/2013/10/24/a-new-petfood-in-town/

Their response then was lukewarm so I went back to other brands.

Lately, they grew tired of the existing brands, so I thought I'd try Merrick again...

I bought this last month.

Decided to just get the Healthy Weight as most of our cats are...on the heavier side.

Hey, I remember this food.

We like it, we like it!

mini-P5070769 mini-P5070771

All 14 cats loved it, so here's our third bag now...

For all the 14 cats, their staple diet is reconstituted Primal and Monge. Kibbles are for snacks except for Indy where he needs kibbles with every meal. Indy does not eat Primal, wet or dry. He would love to eat raw liver, though, but I'm not getting that for him....

A sudden (wet) Primal craze...

I have been giving dry Primal, mixed with Monge on a daily basis to all the 14 cats. Everyone eats it except Indy (who insists that RAW food must contain blood).

The other day, I accidentally put the Primal nuggets into a wet bowl with a fair bit of water, so I thought I'd just try soaking the nuggets (which is the recommended way of feeding in the first place).

Voila! They loved it and even Indy licked the soup up.

So from then on, it's wet Primal every day and I find that this way, they eat more Primal than Monge. And this is actually "better", nutrition-wise because Primal is a completely balanced food (containing organs, which is essential to a cat's diet) whereas Monge is complementary in that it is pure meat (no organ parts).

mini-P5170873

I've noticed  this with wet (reconstituted) Primal - if you put Monge and wet Primal, practically every cat (except Indy) goes for the wet Primal. That's Tabs up there.

mini-P5170878

And Tiger too.

By the way, that big bowl is food for 7 cats, not for Tiger alone!

mini-IMG-20140516-WA0004

Talk about lazy! (Look at Ginger!)

mini-P5170875 mini-P5170877

It's complete because besides meat, it has necks (bones), gizzards and livers.

mini-P5170878 (2)

But storage and handling instructions are to be adhered to more strictly because it is raw food. I only reconstitute with water just before feeding and I make sure the pack is tightly sealed and kept in the fridge.

I know I'm not supposed to feed it with other types of food, though. So best to follow the advice on the package.

Please consult your vet before embarking on a change of diet for your pet.
