The story:

Agnes went scouring through the textiles shops before Chinese New Year, to look for cloth with horse motif. And her perseverance paid off! She found this curtain material:

Agnes bought 18 horses!

Thank you very much, Agnes.

And I worked through Chinese New Year (in between planning for Eugene's pound rescue).

Each horse would be framed in this pretty patchwork cloth.

The horse cloth material was easy to work with as it's very thick cotton.

It measures 54.5 inches by 76 inches.
Yes, it's BIG and heavier than our usual blankets!

And this is a two-layered cotton patchwork without padding in between.

The backing is done in pink and sewn by my mum.

I did the top design and the top-stitching.

mini-P2080504How about 18 horses to keep you warm and comfortable?

Will this blanket be yours?

Happy Bidding!!

And why do I get the feeling that the Ginger, Timmy and Vincent(?) are giving their critical appraisal of your design in the pic above? Heheheh.

Hi Ms Liew, Thank you very much for your kindness and also, for participating in our auctions regularly. We have at least 20 more blankets lined up - all unique in its own way. We have birds, elephants, Doraemons, batik, etc. All coming up soon. We hope you will participate again! Thank you.

You can be sure I will. I read your blog regularly but as a mute participant mostly

*Tumpang glamer moment*

As I was admiring this work again, it suddenly struck me that the striped cloth bordering the horses looks very familiar - and then YES eureka - this is the precious piece of cloth that I donated a few months ago. It is a piece of cloth that I bought many years back at a whim because it was so pretty and feels so lovely when touched and so I fell in love with bought it. But since I make horrible sewing stuff I never had the heart to cut it for anything and so I donated it to Kah Yein because I know it will be put to better use. And here it is as border material - I'm so happy I made a small contribution to this awesomely beautiful art piece.

Hi Chen,

Ooh yes, this cloth looks strikingly similar to the cloth you donated a few months ago, but alas, it isn't your cloth. We are still keeping your cloth as we haven't found other cloth to match it with. Yours is not cotton and is silky soft, so I have been trying to match it with cloth of a similar texture. I'd probably use it for trimming if I can match the colours.

This cloth is from my mum's stash, but yes, it looks amazingly similar to yours!

Meanwhile, if any of you would like to donate any remnant cloth you might have, we'd be more than happy to accept. But it would be good if you have at least half a metre of the same cloth because at this point, we are still doing "designs" and not doing random square patchwork (though I must say I love those grandmother-styled random square patchwork!). It must be the mathematician in me loving squares! LOL!

Ah well, we have the same taste in cloth designs then :D You and your mom must have a pretty impressive stash of fabrics. These striped ones do make nice borders.
